The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration About Sizing Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Response
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category versus the original listing as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Changes
Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Necessary Adjustments
Another shopper, from Derby, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Service Background
The app has more than 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: previously, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
